Apparently the new instructor is capable of learning as well as teaching. She was back to her bubbly tone, but her digressions were brief and she stayed pretty much focused. She did take some time to mark out some music before starting us on it, but mostly she's been very good at having music pre-selected for each activity. I don't know if she started on time or not, as I got there late (boss called just as I was getting changed to go), but when I arrived about 10 minutes late they were at the barre ready to go.
On a more personal note, I managed to do a series of Chaînés turns without falling over. She showed us something that I either hadn't been shown before, or I'd forgotten, that helped it to work better. Given that I had to take Benadryl about an hour before class to calm my allergy-irritated nose, succeeding at anything requiring balance was quite a feat.
All in all, quite a good class.
Why would an otherwise sane 50+ year old man take ballet classes? Let's just call it my mid-life crisis!

New dance tights on order
After wearing the Capezio MT-11 tights for several classes I went back to the pair of 5945 style. And promptly decided that the store clerk was right: they are far more comfortable. The MT-11s will now sit in a drawer "just in case". Or maybe I can wear them at the Renn Faire.
Most people might not care about my trials and tribulations with dance tights, but it's a popular search hit. For the benefit of those men (and parents of boys) who care (and voyeuristic women), I'll babble on.

New teacher woes
Our new teacher is more than new to us: she's just plain new. She's very eager, and really, really excited to be teaching dance as her full-time gig. And therein lies the rub.

Woo Hoo! A Private Lesson!
After escaping from the 102F heat of my trip last week, I was looking forward to tonights class, hoping the others haven't gotten very far ahead. I got there early, only to find out I'm the only one to show. One injured her foot and won't be back for a couple of weeks, and the others are away on vacation. Last Tuesday night, while I was away, no one showed up at all. Holidays and all that, I guess.

No dancing this week
Why not? Nothing shocking: I've been out of town.
Somewhat inspired by the stories others tell of dropping in on classes in other areas, I did check to see if I could find a class that interested me, but nothing really grabbed my attention. And let's be honest, the Dallas suburbs are not exactly comparable with NYC or Boston in this matter.
And then there's the issue of scheduling and energy levels. When I go on one of these trips I generally have time and energy for three things: work, food, and sleep. This trip was no exception, and most evenings I left work, found a convenient restaurant for dinner, then went back to the hotel and crashed. The night I arrived I did practice one combination for about 15 minutes, but that was all I could muster.
Next week I'll be back to class as usual. Hopefully the rest of them haven't gotten too far ahead of me.
