The part of ballet I like least

I finally cleared enough space to attend one of the many virtual ballet classes being offered all around the world. The one I attended was held over Zoom, and it worked pretty well.

It was basically a long barre class. The bits that would have been done in centre were short and didn't involve anything that moved across the floor. Which was fine with me because the space I cleared is basically big enough to do a rond de jambe a terre and not much more.

The biggest problem I had during class is that I set it up on my 9.5" iPad. It is way too small for me to easily follow the instructor's demonstrations. I need to figure out how to display it on a larger screen. I'm eyeing my laptop connected to a 19" external monitor.

So what part of ballet do I like least? The morning after the first class in over a month, that's what. Getting out of bed this morning was a pain in the ass, literally. And the legs. And the lower abdomen -- I guess I worked those core muscles pretty hard.

At least I don't have to deal with traffic this morning -- my commute these days is the 20 foot walk from my bedroom to my home office.

Edited to add: Getting out of my office chair isn't a whole lot better! You would think that by now I'd know better than to leave long lapses in my classes.

  1. It’s possible to screen mirror your iPad to a flat-panel TV. This will enable you to see the instructor from two angles as well as seeing the action in a larger format with the better sound from the TV. Some new smart TVs can do this easily. Others, such as Samsung, need an app called AirScreen to mirror from iOS. I’ve mirrored the iPad to a Samsung with AirScreen active on an Amazon Fire Stick. I’ve done the same with a 12-year-old Sony.
