After missing three consecutive Sunday Beginner I classes (twice for travel, once for illness), I finally got to class this morning. And it may be my last.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying anything negative about the instructor or the school. Not at all. I just think it's time I moved up a level.
I thrive best in an environment where I'm challenged. When I started this class it was a challenge. Now there are challenging moments. We did a sequence which ends with a passé relevé from fourth without a turn as preparation followed by a full turn pirouette also from fourth, although we're told we can do both as passé relevé if we're not comfortable with the turn. When we first did this sequence I'd do exactly that, and would have trouble with the turn. Today I did both as full turns and came out on balance both times. Even when we did the sequence in the opposite direction.
That's just one example, but I could give others. Are there things I could have done better? Sure! Could I still squeeze out useful bits from this class? No doubt. But it isn't the challenge it once was. And there are new things to learn that won't be happening in this class.
Why now? Didn't I just write Wednesday that it wasn't time? It seems this coming Sunday is Easter, and the studio is closed. They don't offer a Beginner I class on Saturday, but there is a Beginner II class. I'm going to take this as a sign. :-)
Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill! Come next Saturday night there will either be rejoicing or sorrow, depending on how class went. Stay tuned!
