As I mentioned previously, I got another pair of Capezio Hanami slippers last Saturday. The class I took Monday didn’t include any turns, so that really didn’t tell me anything about how well they’d stay put on my feet. Tuesday’s class was more of a realistic test and afterward I was feeling kinda optimistic about them. I almost wrote a blog post declaring victory, but I decided to hold off until after today’s class.
During barre today we did a couple of fouette turns and a couple of pirouettes. I noticed the shoe twisted a little bit under my foot during these turns, but it didn’t seem like a problem. During one of the centre combinations, though, we did a promenade in attitude derrierre and that was a problem. As I got more tired I must put more weight on the ball of my foot in turns and less on my toes, because the front suede pad seems to stick more. Or the floor was a bit more tacky than it was on Tuesday (which is possible due to the change in weather). After class I went back to the dancewear shop across the street with the intent of buying some leather Capezio Romeo slippers while they’re still available.
I may be too late — they’re all out of leather Romeos in my size. I asked if they could look up the size of the black Hanamis I bought a couple of years ago and they were size 12W, which suggests that no change in size will fix my problems with them. We tried a few different options before I finally settled on some So Danca slippers. They’re advertised as having “2-way stretch” but I didn’t notice any particular stretchiness, and certainly nothing like the supposed “4-way stretch” of the Capezio Hanami slippers.
I’m really getting tired of this game. I may be able to get leather Romeos online. Or the So Dancas may turn out to be okay. I really would like it if I can go back to replacing my shoes when they wear out rather because they won’t stay on my feet.
