Last week I realized that I have tickets to see The Washington Ballet for this evening. I knew the person I'd planned to take was in Europe last week, but I discovered only yesterday that I was wrong about her return-date. I don't mind too much going alone, but I hate to see a good seat go empty. Thus ensued a mad scramble to find someone who could go on only one day's notice.
Here are a few of the reasons people have given for not taking a 100% free ticket to a well-respected professional ballet performance:
- Out of town.
- Too badly jet-lagged.
- Recovering from minor surgery.
- Have company from out of town.
- Going to relative's funeral.
All good reasons. Last night I reached the point where I offered it to my sister. Yes, my sister. She's a nice person and we get along well, but still.... she's my sister! She said yes, and I went to bed last night feeling the matter had been resolved. Then this morning she texted me saying she'd just gotten tickets to the baseball World Series game tonight and couldn't go. Gaah!
I was on the verge of walking into ballet class this morning and giving it to anyone who would take it when I thought of an old friend I hadn't asked yet. Not only is she available and interested, but it's her birthday (more or less) so it'll be a special treat for her. Yay!
Now if I can just remember to take the tickets with me...
