The Big Tease

This evening I arrived early for class to make sure I had time to warm up first. As I was stretching in the hallway I heard Susan come out to do the same. When I turned around to say hello she was wearing pointe shoes and doing relevés. I've been taking classes from Susan for several years now and I've never seen her in pointe shoes before. Was this a sign that she'd decided to commit to teaching the beginner pointe class?

Oh, please. That would be far too easy. She's still undecided whether to commit to a 13 week class or not. I asked at least twice to be sure I didn't misunderstand. She'd merely come across a pair of old pointe shoes recently and decided to do a little warming up in them.

I completely understand her dilemma. She likes teaching. I think she'd enjoy the chance to teach something different, especially to a small group of committed students. It's the personal time commitment that she's hung up on. And I can't fault her for that.

But warming up in pointe shoes while saying she's on the fence about the class is like talking about how good an ice cream sundae would be, while also saying you really can't afford the calories. I think she's easing herself into the idea but I'm not convinced that she'll buy the sundae. And yes, this is slowly driving me bonkers.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. There was a ballet class after the hallway soap opera. I think we ended up with 8 students this evening, which made for such an "efficient" class that we got an extra dose of petit allegro and still finished a few minutes early. I twanged something in the medial aspect of my left leg just above the ankle which hurt a little bit when balancing on my left foot, but I don't think it's anything major. It doesn't hurt to walk normally and I'll be careful with it for the next couple of days.

Also... I came across this today. some might find it interesting:

  1. She does like to keep us on our toes, doesn't she? :) I'm still encouraged that she is open to considering an adult pointe class. It might take some time for her to figure out the logistics, but I'm hopeful that it could happen in the future. Just the possibility of an adult pointe class is major progress in our neck of the woods, and we have you to thank for it Reece. So thank you!

    1. Pun intended? 8-)

I'm gonna send Susan my dentist bills. I'm grinding my teeth trying not to call JoM and talk some sense into these people.

If I get to MSD early enough tomorrow I may ask the director of that school whether she'd be open to either hosting Susan teaching an adult pointe class there, or offering one herself.

    2. Hi all -- I hope to be in class next week (Achilles better). Reese, if you ask the director of MSD about hosting Susan or teaching pointe class herself, I will be very thankful! You are keeping the ball rolling but I hope not at the expense of your teeth!

  2. I did talk to Kim, the director of MSD, about the possibility of Susan teaching an adult pointe class there. She seemed interested and suggested I give Susan her contact info so they could discuss it. I've passed that along to Susan. Where will this go? Your guess is as good as mine.

I have scheduling conflicts Saturday and Tuesday. I may drop in to Julie's class Sunday, and probably Mané's class next Thursday. Where did half of September go? I haven't gotten used to August being over yet.
